Xavier Edwards, a Palm Beach Select standout player was taken in the 1st round, 38th pick overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2018 baseball draft.

Edwards, a Vanderbilt commit, batted .406/.532/.646 with a pair of homers during his senior season at North Broward High School in Florida, but his best tools are his speed and defense.

“It’s something I dreamed about for years, since I first picked up a baseball,” Edwards said. “Everyone dreams about playing in the big leagues. This is the first step to making that dream come true. For sure, I’m excited to be a Padre.”

A 5-foot-10 switch-hitter, Edwards is known as a line-drive bat and a serious stolen-base threat. Defensively, his quick hands and quick movements in general set him apart from a wide group of eligible shortstops in this years draft.
